NVIDIA will stop producing GTX 1660 Super, GTX 1650 and GTX 1630

Today, December 14, the information publication ITHome, citing its anonymous sources, reported that NVIDIA plans to completely stop production of GTX 16 series video cards in the near future. According to the publication’s source, the “green company” will stop producing the corresponding graphics processors for GTX 1660 Super video cards , GTX 1650 and GTX 1630 already in the first quarter of 2024, that is, over the next three months these video cards will practically cease to exist. Of course, for some time the models will be available from retailers, since there are some stocks in warehouses now, but by the summer, the old stocks will probably run out.

The problem with this solution is that now there are simply no video cards on the market that could replace the GTX 1660 Super, GTX 1650 and GTX 1630. These are “people’s” video cards that attract buyers with a low price and fairly decent performance – you can play in Full HD ( 60% of gamers on Steam play in this resolution) in most modern releases on medium or low graphics settings (in older games the situation is even better). Currently, the above models occupy almost 9% of all graphics accelerators registered in November on the Steam platform, that is, every tenth gamer in the world owns a video card that is being discontinued.

It is also worth recalling that NVIDIA decided to discontinue the 8 GB RTX 3050 – now the manufacturer will have a stripped-down version of the 6 GB model with a narrow 96-bit bus and very low bandwidth. Most likely, NVIDIA’s tactics are to remove really popular video cards from the affordable segment from sale, and then introduce the RTX 4050 or something even more affordable to the market, because in this case, gamers will simply be forced to buy a new product – there will be no alternatives. True, so far all this is just a rumor, because the manufacturer itself has not officially confirmed any news about the completion of production.
