PC sales continue to fall for everyone but Apple

The global PC market continues to decline for the sixth quarter in a row. According to the results of the second quarter of 2023, global computer shipments decreased by 13.4% compared to the same period last year. This is evidenced by a new report from research firm IDC.

In the period from April to June of this year, worldwide sales of computers amounted to 61.6 million units compared to 71.1 million sold in the same three months last year. IDC analysts attribute the fall in sales to macroeconomic problems that led to weak demand from both the consumer and commercial sectors.

Four of the top five PC makers saw their sales drop in the last quarter. The only exception is Apple, which, contrary to the general trend, was able to increase sales of its computers by 10.3% year on year. In the second quarter, Apple sold 5.3 million Macs, placing it in fourth place with a market share of 8.6% from 6.8% a year ago.

The Chinese company Lenovo remains the leader of the global computer market. Lenovo PC sales fell 18.4% year-on-year to 14.2 million units, while market share fell from 24.5% to 23.1%. The second place with 13.4 million deliveries and 21.8% of the market is occupied by the American company HP. It is followed by Dell, which shipped 10.3 million of its computers over the past three months, taking 16.8% of the market. 6.4% or 4 million of the total quarterly sales were accounted for by Acer computers, which own the fifth place in the market.
