ASUS has officially unveiled its latest ROG Strix SCAR 17 X3D gaming laptop, featuring AMD’s next-generation Ryzen 9 7945HX3D processor. It is worth noting that AMD itself named this chip the best gaming processor for laptops, saying that thanks to advanced technology, it is 15-20% more powerful than the regular AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX. It’s all about support for AMD 3D V-Cache technology, which was first implemented in a mobile processor – thanks to an additional 64 MB of L3 cache on one of the processor chiplets, the engineers of the “red company” were able to increase the total amount of cache to 144 MB (16 MB L2 + 128 MB L3).
As a result, a processor with eight processing cores can handle complex calculations much faster, especially in video games, expanding the capabilities of a portable computer. Although, of course, ASUS decided to surprise a potential buyer not only with a chip – the device also received a mobile version of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 video card (it is significantly inferior to the desktop one, but is on a par with the “large” RTX 4080), an impressive customization of RAM and internal memory, and also the AMD Precision Boost Overdrive function built into the BIOS for overclocking the central processor – if desired, and probably with additional cooling, the laptop can be made even more powerful.
If you don’t squeeze all the juice out of the processor, then the laptop will cope with cooling its hardware on its own – for this, the manufacturer uses liquid metal on the graphics processor of the video card, and the processor is also cooled by a special evaporation chamber. Unfortunately, so far no official information about temperatures in load mode has been provided, but there is a chance that the gadget will not overheat in games. Complements the list of characteristics of new items display with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels, a refresh rate of 240 Hz and support for G-SYNC technology. In addition, NVIDIA Advanced Optimus technology is also involved here, which reduces input lag.
But in terms of design, the ROG Strix SCAR 17 X3D looks absolutely standard – the manufacturer uses the same edging with RGB backlighting on the bottom of the case, a keyboard with flexible glow settings and division into zones, and for some reason they decided to push the webcam to a separate panel above the main frame of the monitor. It certainly looks like an amateur, but this is a gaming laptop – they all look not quite standard.
