Microsoft has not yet officially announced Windows 12. All the more interesting are the rare rumors about the future operating system that are leaking onto the global network. A few months ago, information appeared in thematic media that the new OS could become cloud-based. It was indirectly confirmed by another news that appeared on the pages of the online publication Neowin.
Lines related to subscription were found in the text of the INI configuration file in one of the test builds of Windows 11. As you can see from the image, these lines are not present in the recently released version of Windows 11 23H2, they are only present in the Canary channel.
The lines are written in German, and translated into English they mean the following:
- subscription edition – (L_MsgSubscriptionEdition);
- subscription type – L_MsgSubscriptionType (“device-based subscription” or “user-based subscription”);
- subscription status – L_MsgSubscriptionStatus (“active”, “inactive”, “deactivated”, “expired”).
This may mean that in the future, Microsoft may switch to a subscription model – users will have to pay a monthly or annual subscription fee for the right to work in the Windows 12 operating system. It is difficult to say whether the OS developers really have such plans, or whether these are the fantasies of the news authors notes. We just have to wait for official information from Microsoft.
