Today, July 28, AMD officially unveiled its latest gaming processor Ryzen 9 7945HX3D, designed for the gaming laptop segment. It is worth noting that this is the first mobile processor of the “red company”, which was equipped with a 3D V-Cache cache, which significantly affected the overall performance in games and not only. On its own, the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D boasts 16 cores with 32 threads and clock speeds up to 5.4 GHz (base clock is 2.3 GHz, but it rises under extreme system loads). In this regard, the new product is similar to the original Ryzen 9 7945HX without 3D V-Cache, only it has a base frequency higher by 200 MHz.
And, in fact, it is in the 3D V-Cache cache that the main feature of the new chip lies – the manufacturer added an additional 64 MB of L3 memory to one of the CCD chiplets, thanks to which, in the end, the processor has an impressive amount of 144 MB of cache memory (16 MB L2 and 128 MB L3). For example, so much cache memory was integrated into the flagship Ryzen 9 7950X3D desktop processor, which is one of the best on the market. It is thanks to this new-generation memory that AMD in the company itself is called the most powerful mobile solution for gamers – due to 3D V-Cache, the chip provides an increase of 15 to 20% in game performance relative to the base Ryzen 9 7945HX processor.
But the point is not only in the marginal increase in performance from model to model, but also in power consumption. The bottom line is that with a TDP limit of 70 W, the new processor turned out to be 11% faster than its base counterpart without additional cache memory, but this is a rather high load and a lot of heat will be generated in this case. But at a TDP of 40 W, the Ryzen 9 7945HX3Dо processor seemed already 23% more powerful than its brother in the game Shadow of the Tomb Raider. This means that this chip, with less power consumption, will be able to produce more frames per second, and this will have a positive effect on heating and the need to use powerful cooling in laptops.
In addition, two computing units with integrated Radeon 610M graphics built on the RDNA 2 architecture were integrated into the new laptop processor at once. Although, of course, if the processor aims at the segment of powerful gaming solutions, then there is simply no point in integrated graphics – a gaming laptop is all will still get discrete graphics, which will obviously be more powerful. The only problem with the new chip is that although it will be released on August 22, for now it will only be available as part of the flagship ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 X3D laptop , the price of which is likely to be exorbitant.
