PS5 gets an update with support for SSD up to 8 TB and customization of the console startup sound

In July, Sony gave select users access to a beta version of the update for the PlayStation 5. Finally, its full version has reached mere mortals. The PS5 patch size is 1.1 GB.

Let’s go through the main features of the new update:

  • Support for larger M.2 SSDs with storage capacity up to 8 TB.
  • Dolby Atmos support – 3D audio now works on HDMI devices with DA technology. These include TVs, sound bars and home theaters.
  • Support for an auxiliary Access controller in parallel with the main one on the same account.
  • Ability to respond to messages using emoji.
  • Ability to adjust the volume of the “beep” when turning the PS5 on and off. This sound can be completely deactivated .
  • Improved console navigation. The sound when moving the cursor has become more distinct, and tactile feedback has also appeared when navigating.
  • Remote Play support on more Android devices, such as Chromecast and other devices running Android TV OS 12.
  • And other improvements like more convenient event cards, updated parties, library search, and so on.
