Edifier TWS1 Pro 2: Comfortable ANC buds at a low cost

When it comes to wireless headphones in the $50 range, it’s rare to see noise cancellation as one of their primary features, and do you know what’s even rarer? That noise cancellation is really effective and not just a marketing label. Today we will talk to you about headphones that meet these conditions, the Edifier TWS1 Pro 2.

Coming from a brand with as much respect in the field of audio as the Edifier, we can expect good sound, or at least as good as can be expected from headphones as affordable as these. To enhance the offer, they put on the table an autonomy of up to 24 hours (with case), low latency mode, the Edifier Connect app for sound equalization and a comfortable design.

On the other hand, if you were looking for a high-end or perhaps a headband option, we recently took a look at the Edifier STAX SPIRIT S3 , planar-magnetic headphones with excellent sound and autonomy, although yes, they are a headband.

Layout and controls

At the design level, the shape of the Edifier TWS1 Pro 2 reminds us of the 1MORE Evo for its stylized design and comfort, although yes, they do not reach the same quality quotas, but we did not expect it for the price either. Either way, these headphones borrow the rubber tip and oval earpiece from the AirPods Pro, combining them into a subtle accessory that barely protrudes from your ears. Best of all, they are comfortable to wear for long hours , not to mention they have a secure fit that lends itself to exercise.

To control these headphones there are touch panels on each side , which perform different functions depending on the touches. For example, by double-pressing the left earbud we switch between noise cancellation modes, while doing so on the right earbud can pause/play music.

It is worth mentioning that these headphones receive IP54 certification , so they can withstand sweat and splashes of water without problems.

Better sound than we expected

The Edifier TWS1 Pro feature a default sound profile that most users will find satisfactory. These deliver additional bass to the mix, which comes at the expense of mid-range frequencies around 200-500 Hz, so you’ll hear less detail in most instrumental and vocal fundamentals compared to higher-end headphones. high. They also manifest a significant boost to the high frequencies around 5-8 kHz, which can be a bit annoying on percussive tracks at high volumes.

With that in mind, the amount of bass depends on the sound setting we use. With the classic equalizer, the lower mids are neutral and the bass is not boosted too much. It focuses on delivering fast-paced mid-bass hits that don’t last or go too deep, although the sub-bass can still deliver a solid rumble.

With the equalizer set to Pop, the lower mids gain weight and add more warmth to the music , taking some of the emphasis off the center mids. Additionally, the bass increases in presence. Both the mid-bass and sub-bass hits sound full, denser, and a little deeper. The beats can get a little muddy on bass-heavy songs, but their overall presentation is usually appropriate for modern genres of music.

How good is the noise cancellation of the Edifier TWS1 Pro 2?

For the price of these headphones, the noise cancellation is a pleasant surprise, because when we activate this function, environmental noise is reduced by 75% . To be precise, this ANC signature helps attenuate low-frequency noise around 100Hz. Meanwhile, the midtones are damped reasonably well, meaning that the bustle of people talking and music on the street move nicely into the background. Lower tones, whether the constant hum of air conditioning or engines, are also successfully softened . What remains is some high-pitched noise, like rain or strong wind.

That said, from the Edifier Connect application we can activate/deactivate not only ANC, but there are also improvements that can help in some cases. For example, there are options for wind noise reduction, ambient noise reduction, and you can even adjust the level of overall noise cancellation. Likewise, there are transparency modes for when we want to pay attention to the environment or talk to someone without removing the headphones.

Microphone

A microphone for hands-free calls could not be missing, and if you wonder about its performance, we will tell you that it is acceptable, but far from good. In this sense, the microphone of the Edifier TWS1 Pro 2 captures the voice clearly during calls, but also the sound of the wind, the voices of people around us and other environmental noises, so the final quality depends on many external factors.

Edifier Connect

The Edifier Connect App for mobile phones is very useful when it comes to controlling these headphones and getting more out of them. As we already mentioned, it has controls for the ANC function and sound equalization through preset settings (Normal, Classic, Pop and Rock) , but the story does not end here, as it also allows you to change the controls, usage detection, Bluetooth options , find my headphones, update the firmware, set a sleep timer, activate low latency mode for gaming, and check the battery.

Autonomy

When it comes to autonomy, we are not very surprised by what these headphones can do, but there are redeemable points. In this sense, without ANC the Edifier TWS1 Pro 2 can offer us up to 6 hours of duration , but when it is active that figure is reduced to 4 hours or so.

Naturally, with the help of the charging case we can obtain more hours of use, since it provides us with 3 additional recharges (18 hours) . This is equivalent to 24 hours of total use or 16 hours with active noise cancellation. Finally, the recharge time is 2 hours for the headphones (1.5 for the case), but with only 10 minutes refueling we will get 1 hour of music.

PROS:

  • Active noise cancellation
  • Companion App
  • Low latency mode
  • Comfortable and stable
  • Great value for money

CONS:

  • Battery life with ANC is short
