The American brand Andover Audio has expanded its line of SoundBites audio components with the SpinStage phono stage . The novelty is enclosed in a stylish case made of anodized aluminum. The developers emphasize that the SpinStage was designed with a focus on keeping the noise level to a minimum to support virtually any moving magnet (MM) or moving coil (MC) cartridge.
Andover Audio CTO Bob Hazelwood comments, “We created the SoundBites line of audio components to give our customers access to a value for money component stereo system. The SpinStage provides the flexibility and quality of more expensive phono stages at a very attractive price. This is a smart upgrade to the built-in phono stages built into the preamps or receivers, as a result of which you can unleash the potential of your cartridge.
The Andover SpinStage phono stage’s MC section features a separate ultra-low-noise discrete transistor amplification stage, providing the amplification needed for MC heads without adding noise. Moreover, the MC input is made on a separate pair of RCA connectors, which allows you to use the phono stage with a player equipped with two tonearms (and two pickup heads, respectively). The MM/MC mode switch is located next to the inputs. But that’s not all! Andover SpinStage is equipped with a line input that retains the switching capabilities of your amplifier after connecting a phono stage to it.
The Andover SpinStage equalization circuit ensures that the RIAA correction curve is followed to ±0.2dB accuracy, and the sub-low pass filter protects your amplifier and acoustics from overload. The phono stage uses an external 15V/1A power supply, which contributes to better noise immunity of the component’s signal circuits.
