British brand Onix , owned by Taiwan Sound Art Co. , in collaboration with Shanling , introduced the Onix Miracle Streamer Stack , a compact three-piece kit that includes the Onix XM10 portable player, the Onix XP10 external DAC with headphone amplifier, and the Onix XPS10 linear power supply.. The manufacturer positions the Onix Miracle Streamer Stack as a desktop compact High End solution for a personal computer. Both partners claim that the design and concept of the Onix Miracle Streamer Stack was developed by Onix experts using Shanling’s technology and experience in high-end personal audio, with Shanling also taking over the production of the new product.
The Onix Miracle Streamer Stack is ideal for use on the go or for listening to music at home. The pivot is the Onix XM10 portable player, which allows you to play Hi-Res Audio on the go, while at home it connects to a docking station and thus becomes a high-definition network source for a stationary personal music system. In this regard, the Onix Miracle Streamer Stack system resembles the Shanling Desktop Line, and it is likely that many of the features and solutions were inherited from this line during the development of the novelty.
The Onix XM10 portable player is based on the Snapdragon 665 mobile platform from Qualcomm Inc. and runs on Android OS. The player supports Wi-Fi, bi-directional Bluetooth 5.0 with SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, LDAC and LHDC, and USB-C. The device is equipped with a 6-inch IPS touch display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and several hardware buttons.
The digital-to-analogue conversion of the Onix XM10 is based on the AKM AK4493S chip from Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation, making it capable of decoding up to 32bit/768kHz and DSD up to DSD512. The output stage for mobile use is based on two RT6863 amplifier modules from RiCore Technology Co. in a dual mono design. In addition to the 3.5 mm minijack connector, there is a Pentaconn 4.4 mm balanced output for symmetrical connection of high-quality headphones. This output provides 230 mW of power when used with headphones with a nominal impedance of 32 ohms, and on an unbalanced output up to 125 mW at 32 ohms. The Onix XM10 built-in 3,350 mAh battery provides up to 18 hours of continuous use.
The Onix XP10 high-quality external DAC and headphone amplifier acts as the centerpiece of the entire Onix Miracle Streamer Stack system, to which the Onix XM10 portable player described above is connected via the dedicated XM10 Dock. The Onix XP10 is based on the X2000 platform from Ingenic Semiconductor Co. Digital-to-analog conversion here is implemented on an audiophile 8-channel Saber 32 ES9039PRO chip from ESS Technology Inc. with a custom-designed high-speed I/V converter stage that Onix calls the Brighton architecture. It is based on the OPA1611 and OPA2211 operational amplifiers from Texas Instruments, combined with a pair of high-quality TI PGA2311 volume controls with 254 levels.
In addition to the already mentioned XM10 docking station for the Onix XM10 portable player, the Onix XP10 external DAC is equipped with USB-C and USB-A ports, as well as optical and coaxial S/PDIF inputs. There are both optical and coaxial digital outputs and even a pair of analog inputs on RCA connectors and balanced and unbalanced analog outputs for connecting an external amplifier or active acoustics. Like a portable player, the Onix XP10 external DAC and headphone amplifier is equipped with a Bluetooth 5.0 adapter, but only SBC and LDAC are on the list of supported codecs. To connect headphones, there are 3.5 mm minijack, 6.3 mm jack, as well as balanced Pentaconn 4.4 mm and 4-pin XLR outputs. According to the manufacturer, at unbalanced outputs, the component provides 1,757 mW at 32 ohms or 224 mW at 300 ohms,
For control and configuration, there are rotary encoders on the front panel and a 3.18-inch touch screen display on the top cover, just in front of the XM10 docking station. You can also use a smartphone or tablet connected via Bluetooth to control it – an application for mobile gadgets Eddict Player for iOS and Android is available for this.
