Roon Labs OPRA: Custom EQ Curves for Headphones

OPRA, which stands for Open Profiles for Revealing Audio, is a compilation of DSP-based equalization curves designed for headphones. This feature has been introduced in the most recent version of Roon’s software, allowing for optimal tuning of headphones.

Roon Labs Open Profiles for Revealing Audio

With the latest versions of the Roon app and Roon ARC, software maker Roon Labs LLC. , part of Harman International, offers a functionality called Open Profiles for Revealing Audio (OPRA). The software is based on the DPS engine Roon MUSE Audio Suite and aims to optimally tune music playback for different headphones.

Strictly speaking, there is nothing new here, because the EQ curves for headphones can also be created by yourself. The novelty lies in the fact that Roon Labs wants to facilitate a uniform base, or rather database, of EQ curves, relying on an open source repository on GitHub. This open database is intended to provide audio experts and sound enthusiasts with a reliable, collaborative platform to create and share precise EQ curves for headphones. The EQ curves are profiles that can be easily integrated into the software after creation.

The new Headphone EQ is available directly via MUSE Precision Audio Control. There is already a variety of EQ curves for headphones from various leading manufacturers. The user can search for the desired model, and the list of models is expected to grow in the future.
