Huawei Mate 70 flagship camera phones receive 2 million pre-orders

Huawei has commenced pre-orders for its upcoming smartphone lineup, the Huawei Mate 70 series. This series will feature three models: the Huawei Mate 70, Huawei Mate 70 Pro, and Huawei Mate 70 Pro+. The higher-end models will be equipped with three primary camera modules, including a periscope lens that offers optical zoom capabilities. The previous generation, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro+, currently holds the 4th position in the DxOMark rankings, achieving a score comparable to that of the flagship iPhone 16 Pro Max. The official unveiling of these smartphones is scheduled for November 26.

Huawei is poised to make significant strides in the competitive camera phone market, which is rapidly evolving. This generation of devices is focused on enhancing photographic capabilities through advanced artificial intelligence systems, which are becoming a central aspect of the marketing strategy for these new smartphones.

While Huawei has yet to disclose specific information regarding the AI enhancements in the Mate 70 series, various sources have begun to share insights and images related to the Huawei Mate 70 Pro+ smartphone.

The Huawei Mate 70 Pro, along with the anticipated Huawei Mate 70 Pro+, is set to feature a 6.88-inch curved display boasting a resolution of 1.5K and a high refresh rate of 120 Hz.

The primary camera is equipped with a 50 MP sensor in a 1/1.3 inch optical format. This camera includes adjustable aperture capabilities, similar to those found in the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra, which currently holds the top position in the DxOMark rankings.

Details regarding the specifications of the wide-angle module remain undisclosed. However, it is plausible that it will also incorporate a 50 MP sensor, reflecting the current trend of standardizing resolutions across various camera modules in contemporary smartphones.

Additionally, the main camera setup of the Huawei Mate 70 Pro includes a depth sensor, which will significantly enhance image processing through software. This feature will be particularly beneficial for portrait photography, allowing for a software-generated bokeh effect.

A source has released an image showcasing the front section of the Huawei Mate 70 Pro smartphone (refer to the image above). The selfie camera system features the camera module, which is expected to have a resolution of 48 MP, along with two 3D ToF modules. These components can facilitate device unlocking through facial recognition technology, enhancing security measures.

The hardware is set to see enhancements over the previous generation’s flagship models. According to one source, the upcoming devices will feature the new Kirin 9100 SoC processor.

This chip will be produced using a 6nm manufacturing process (SMIC N+3), representing a technological advancement from the 7nm Kirin 9000S chip utilized in the earlier series, specifically the Huawei Mate 60.

The Kirin 9100 processor incorporates the Cortex-X1 core, which is also found in the Snapdragon 888, along with the Cortex-A78 and Cortex-A55 cores. Consequently, this new processor is expected to fall short in benchmark performance comparisons, particularly in AnTuTu, against contemporary flagship processors from Qualcomm. However, this disparity is unlikely to impact the actual performance of the smartphone in everyday use.

This new chip will enable advanced intelligent features in the upcoming camera phone, although specific details regarding its photo and video capabilities have yet to be disclosed.

The smartphones will be equipped with a robust 6000 mAh battery that supports wireless charging, along with a casing designed to resist water and dust. They will also run on the proprietary HarmonyOS, which offers unique functionalities, technologies, and extensive compatibility.

Huawei plans to launch the Mate 70 and Mate 70 Pro smartphones in a variety of colors, including black, white, green, and purple, each featuring 12 GB of RAM. Storage options will include 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB. The premium model, the Huawei Mate 70 Pro+, will be available in a more limited color selection of black and white, and will come with 16 GB of RAM and storage options of either 512 GB or 1 TB.

The upcoming series of Huawei smartphones will face significant competition. Firstly, the Honor Magic 7 Pro features a remarkable 200 MP sensor in its main camera’s telephoto module. Additionally, the camera system is enhanced with Image Engine 3.0 algorithms, utilizing AI to optimize color, contrast, and overall image quality.

Another strong contender is the OnePlus 13, which boasts three Sony sensors, each with a resolution of 50 megapixels. Notably, the primary module is equipped with the new generation Sony LYT-808 sensor, featuring an optical format of 1/1.4 inches and a pixel size of 1.12 µm. This larger sensor is expected to deliver superior performance in low-light conditions and likely offers an impressive dynamic range.

Lastly, the Nubia Z70 Ultra camera phone presents an intriguing option. It is designed with ultra-thin bezels, a 1.5K resolution display that can reach brightness levels of up to 2000 nits, and advanced main camera features, including a 3.3x zoom and a 35 mm focal length. Its photo and video capabilities are further enhanced by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.
