Samsung unveils Gauss generative AI that will appear in the Galaxy S24

Samsung previously hinted that it would begin adding generative AI to the core functions of mobile devices.

The second day of the Samsung AI Forum 2023 was dedicated to generative artificial intelligence, in connection with which the South Korean giant announced its own generative AI model called Gauss. It is being developed by a division of Samsung Research, and the project itself is named after the legendary mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss, who created the theory of normal distribution, which is considered the basis of machine learning and artificial intelligence. Samsung’s generative AI consists of three parts: Samsung Gauss Language, Samsung Gauss Code and Samsung Gauss Image. Each of them is adapted for specific tasks.

Samsung Gauss Language is a generative language model that can compose emails, summarize documents, and translate content. It can also provide more intelligent control of devices (such as Google Home or Amazon Alexa).

Samsung Gauss Code uses code.i, a coding assistant that allows developers to quickly write code, describe it, and generate test cases.

Samsung Gauss Image is responsible for creating and editing original images, can change their style and even increase the resolution of images.

Samsung’s generative AI is currently being used to improve the productivity of its employees, and its use will be expanded to various Samsung applications in the near future. Since Samsung Gauss can run locally on the device, it will most likely be integrated into the Galaxy S24 series smartphones, which are expected to be announced in early 2024. Last month, Samsung executives hinted that the company would begin adding generative artificial intelligence to the core functions of mobile devices.
