Apparently, we should no longer wait for gaming smartphones from Redmi. Flagship models are already quite coping with their tasks.
The head of Redmi, Lu Weibing, shared some interesting information on his page on the Weibo social network. He stated that in 2023, users will no longer need a gaming smartphone, and such devices will disappear as a class. The top manager made such a statement based on reasoning about the capabilities of modern smartphones. In particular, he praised the flagship Xiaomi 13 series, noting that all models performed very well in games. The company has already carried out the necessary tests and can say with confidence that smartphones are in no way inferior to devices that are specially designed for mobile games.
It is already known that Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro are built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform. Due to the high performance, the average frame rate in many popular games is close to the maximum, and the power consumption is only 5.6W on average. The latest technology and latest architecture has increased the multi-core performance of the processor by 37%, while the performance of the graphics core has increased by 42%, which is rare in previous flagship platform updates.
Notably, the peak performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 GPU is well ahead of the Apple A16 (+25%). So it’s safe to call it the chipset with the most powerful graphics to date. At the same time, the energy efficiency indicators are the same as those of the A16. In order to take full advantage of the performance of the latest Qualcomm processor, Xiaomi 13 smartphones are equipped with a large-area liquid cooling (VC) system.
By the way, Redmi also has gaming smartphones in its arsenal – Redmi K40 Gaming Edition and Redmi K50 Gaming. However, judging by the rhetoric of the head of the brand, there will be no more new models, since the power and capabilities of ordinary smartphones are enough to comfortably play.
