Despite the very decent hardware of Xiaomi’s flagship smartphones, software support remains the company’s Achilles heel. Often, the Chinese giant’s devices receive Android updates several months after other manufacturers do. Xiaomi recently promised four years of OS updates and five years of security updates for the Xiaomi 13T series, and has now started rolling out a new version of MIUI based on Android 14 for some of its flagships.
The company has confirmed that the update is available to all Xiaomi 13 Pro, Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 12T users. The only strange thing is that the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, the current flagship, is missing from the list. In any case, the news is great, and what’s also notable is that Xiaomi is ahead of Samsung and OnePlus in releasing the latest version of Android for its devices to date. Considering how slowly the company has moved on this front, this is truly commendable. The build comes less than 24 hours after Google released Android 14 for compatible Pixel smartphones.
Xiaomi has confirmed that MIUI 14 update based on Android 14 is available for Xiaomi 13 Pro, Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 12T.
Back in July of this year, Xiaomi launched a beta testing program for MIUI 14 based on Android 14. Perhaps this played an important role in the fact that the company released a stable version of its software so quickly. The update for the above-mentioned smartphones will arrive in stages over the coming days and weeks.
Apart from Xiaomi, Samsung and OnePlus also launched Android 14 beta testing programs for their flagship devices. They should start rolling out updates soon.
