The Insta360 company has released a non-standard teaser of a new action camera, which will become a direct competitor to the recently announced GoPro 12. Judging by the content of the teaser, the manufacturer is ready to “outdo” its competitive advantages.
In the published video, cameras (the new Insta360 and GoPro 12) collide head-on – after which the GoPro shatters into pieces. At the same time, the company manages to demonstrate two advantages of the new camera relative to its competitor.
The first is a Leica lens. The corresponding caption appears for a few moments in the teaser. It has not yet been specified what specific characteristics this optics will receive, but Leica’s participation in its development could provide an increase in both aperture and other optical characteristics – and ultimately improve image quality.
The second advantage of the future new product from Insta360, as follows from the teaser, implies a folding display. It’s difficult to say how much of an advantage this really is, since if the action camera falls, it can seriously damage both the hinge mechanism and the display itself.
GoPro got around this problem by introducing a small display on the front to make it easy to monitor the image in vlog mode.
At the same time, in general, the design of the future new product from Insta360 is very close to GoPro. The announcement of the new product will take place on November 21.
Insta360 was founded in 2015 with the goal of finding a better way to share experiences, which led them to create their first 360° camera. They have produced such successful cameras as 360° cameras (X3 or ONE RS), action cameras, handheld gimbals or webcams.
Another potential competitor to the future new product is the DJI Osmo Action 4 action camera, which was presented in August. It has a similar form factor. The action camera received a new matrix compared to the previous generation model. The CMOS sensor in the Osmo Action 4 camera has an optical format of 1/1.3 inches with a pixel size of 2.4 microns. Potentially, this should improve the quality of shooting in low light conditions.
The optics in the DJI Osmo Action 4 are with an F/2.8 aperture and a viewing angle of 155 degrees. The exact same lens is installed in the previous camera model. To control the camera, two displays are used, located on different sides of the device body. Moreover, they are both sensory.
