Nikon will introduce a new high-speed camera

Sources report that Nikon is preparing to introduce a new full-frame mirrorless camera with high-speed shooting functions. Its exact name has not yet been given, but the camera matrix will have a resolution of 24 to 28 megapixels.

This camera, judging by the source, may appear in the first half of 2024. It will be equipped with an advanced autofocus system (like the Nikon Z8 and Nikon Z9 models). Apparently, there will also be support for artificial intelligence in detecting and tracking objects.

At the same time, it is not yet entirely clear in what housing the new camera will be implemented. There are three options here:

  • Nikon Z6 (then we are talking about the Nikon Z6 Mark III camera – its announcement is expected in mid- 2024)
  • Nikon Z8
  • Nikon Z9 (then we can talk about the Nikon Z9H camera)

The source mentioned that Nikon’s new camera will have a built-in handgrip (like the Nikon Z9), and feature the latest generation wireless transmitter (5.8GHz/2.4GHz wireless LAN equipment) for high-speed wireless data transmission.

One of the sources published a potential image of the new product (the body is smaller than that of the Nikon Z8, but the viewfinder is quite large):

However, most likely, in the image we see the Nikon Z8 camera from a slightly distorted perspective.

In connection with the upcoming CES 2024 (January 9-12) and 2024 CP+ (February 22-25), Nikon will present another announcement in the first quarter of 2024, one of the sources said. Whether this will be the camera in question is still unknown.

The Nikon Z9H camera , which may receive a Global Shutter system. It is reported that Nikon may release this new product before the Olympic Games, which will be held in the first quarter of 2024. Separately, the source reports that information that the new camera from Nikon will receive a global shutter came even before the announcement of the Sony A9 III, which also has this function. This may indicate that Nikon is indeed developing a camera to match.

Nikon Z8 received support for recording 8K 60 fps video to a memory card. The camera has a full-frame FX Stacked CMOS sensor with a resolution of 45.7 megapixels (8256×5504).
