Sony has announced a new 61-megapixel full-frame camera in a compact body with remote control capability. The camera is designed to be mounted on drones. The Sony ILX-LR1 model received support for interchangeable lenses, light weight and support for the Camera Remote SDK.

In this case, the camera does not have a monitor, viewfinder and battery. The camera is made in the form factor of a box, and has screw holes that allow you to mount it to drones, underwater vehicles, robots and other devices. The USB Type-C and HDMI Micro (Type D) connectors are located together on the back of the camera for easy installation.

The Sony Camera Remote SDK system allows you to remotely access and control menus and other camera functions from your own software applications. By integrating the API into the system, it becomes possible to remotely control the camera from the user’s system, allowing you to change camera settings, shutter release, real-time monitoring, and more .
In addition, client applications can associate unique image identifiers with drone location data in post-processing. In the new software version 1.11, when using manual focus, you can remotely adjust the focus for more stability. The ILX-LR1 Power and Control Terminal provides low-latency data transmission for remote applications that require instant response, such as momentary image capture. The ILX-LR1 supports 10-18V DC power and can be powered by the aircraft battery for extended runtime without the need to replace batteries.
The ILX-LR1 will be unveiled at the Commercial UAV Expo Show in Las Vegas on September 5, 2023. The camera will be available in September at a price of $2,950.
