KEF has announced five new subwoofers at once: a separate model KC92 and four subwoofers in the Kube series. They all use proprietary Music Integrity Engine (MIE) technology. This is a proprietary DSP digital processing algorithm complemented by iBX Intelligent Bass Enhancement. The system, according to the manufacturer, “analyzes the input signal and allows the subwoofers to maintain their dynamics at any listening level.”
The eldest of the new products, KC92, received two 9-inch speakers located oppositely in a closed housing. By moving in the opposite direction, their cones cancel out the typical “subwoofer” vibration of the cabinet and, according to KEF, “maximize precision and detail.” The KC92 received two 500-W Class D amplifiers, separately for each speaker.
The external “pleated” diffuser surrounds are made using the patented P-Flex Surround technology, “inspired by the art of origami.” The manufacturer is confident that with them the diffuser moves more accurately. As a result, the lower limit frequency of 11 Hz is declared for the KC92. The new product provides sound settings for five placement options – against a wall, in a corner, in a closet, in an open space, in an apartment. Finish options are black and white gloss.
The Kube series of subwoofers includes four models, differing in the size of the speakers installed in them: 8, 10, 12 and 15 inches. These are also ‘closed boxes’, with DSP settings allowing EQ for three placements. Subwoofers are equipped with both line and high voltage inputs. As an alternative, you can use the proprietary KW1 wireless subwoofer adapter. All of the listed low-frequency new products from KEF will be available for pre-order from February 27 (for myKEF subscribers – from February 20).
In the US, the KEF KC92 subwoofer will cost $2,000, the Kube 15, 12, 10 and 8 models will cost $1,400, $1,000, $800 and $600, respectively.
