McIntosh unveils PS2K subwoofer

McIntosh presented at the CEDIA 2023 exhibition, which takes place in Denver, USA, the active subwoofer McIntosh PS2K , equipped with four 13-inch low-frequency drivers, which are designed using McIntosh’s patented high-performance low-distortion (LD/HP) magnetic system, increasing power and speaker efficiency.

The bass drivers are equipped with multi-layer carbon fiber cones. Previously, such diffusers were made from a single layer of material that had some flexibility, which could negatively affect the sound. New multi-layer carbon fiber cones are now integrated with the voice coil, resulting in extreme rigidity and minimal distortion.

Each of the four bass drivers is driven by a separate 500W Class D amplifier, delivering a total output power of up to 2kW. The McIntosh PS2K powered subwoofer offers a variety of connection options, compatible with virtually any source. Whether it’s a stereo system or a multi-channel home theater system, the McIntosh PS2K offers balanced and unbalanced stereo inputs and outputs, as well as balanced and unbalanced LFE inputs and outputs, allowing you to daisy chain multiple subwoofers.

The McIntosh PS2K active subwoofer also features two McIntosh protection technologies. The first is Power Guard , a feature designed to monitor the input audio signal in real time to prevent clipping. The second technology, Sentry Monitor , is a short-circuit protection circuit that shuts down the amplifier’s output stage before the current exceeds a safe operating level and automatically re-establishes the connection when operating conditions return to normal.

The McIntosh PS2K powered subwoofer is available in a high-gloss black finish with carbon fiber accents and a solid aluminum base. The kit includes both spikes and soft feet for hard floors. The McIntosh PS2K active subwoofer will be available in October 2023 with a suggested retail price of US$50,000 / €60,000 / £52,000 each.
