The first images of a new soundbar from Sonos , codenamed Lasso , have leaked online . It will reportedly be the first model to feature new audio technology from Mayht, which Sonos acquired in 2022.
According to The Verge, which also published photos of the new product, Lasso is a name that is not yet final. The new product will be similar to the current flagship Sonos Arc soundbar, but will feature improved bass, Bluetooth support, and a physical switch to disable the built-in microphone.
“The Lasso soundbar looks very similar to the Arc, which Sonos introduced more than four years ago. But inside, the components and drivers have been completely redesigned, which is expected to push the soundbar’s price up to $1,200. Sonos plans to release the Lasso later this year, though the timing could change,” The Verge reports .
The new Lasso soundbar will likely be the first Sonos product to integrate technology from Mayht, a Netherlands-based audio company that Sonos acquired in 2022 for around $100 million. At the time, CEO Patrick Spence said Mayht had “invented a new, revolutionary approach to audio transducers ,” apparently using neodymium magnets. The new soundbar will also support Dolby Atmos spatial audio streaming to the new Sonos Ace headphones, as well as the Sonos Arc.
