Teclast M50 Pro: A great budget tablet

The Teclast M50 Pro is a low-mid-range tablet that impresses us with the roundness of its offering in relation to its price tag. Going into details, it boasts a metallic design governed by a 10.1-inch FullHD screen, while inside it has the presence of an 8-core chip along with 8GB of RAM (16GB via virtual expansion) and 128/256GB of internal storage.

Likewise, a 6,000mAh battery powers the set, promising an entire day of use. The experience comes to life thanks to the Android 13 operating system, which includes the relevant optimizations to take advantage of large screen devices like this one. To put the icing on the cake, it is a fairly independent tablet in terms of connectivity, with 4G Dual-SIM to browse the Internet or make calls.

Teclast M50 Pro Review

All this and more awaits us in a package whose price is around the 200 euro mark, so it is a more than decent smart tablet for daily use and that will not cost us an arm and a leg. If you are interested in knowing it in more detail, welcome to our review. On the other hand, if you were looking for something even more affordable or simple, perhaps we could interest you in the Teclast M40 Plus .

Design and screen

The Teclast M50 Pro can boast a well-made and slim metal chassis, which weighs only 435 grams, making it very light for a tablet of its size. The metal surface of the back is only interrupted by a narrow band of plastic that runs the entire width of the tablet, specifically above the 13 MP main camera. That said, the device sports a subtle turquoise color called Aqua that is definitely pleasing to the eye.

The front houses a 10.1-inch IPS LCD panel . Thanks to the display bezel, which measures around 1 centimeter wide on all sides, the M50 Pro has a solid screen-to-surface ratio of 83% and can be held comfortably in your hands.

With that in mind, this one has an FHD resolution and a conventional 60Hz refresh rate, so it is not the smoothest on the market nor a recommended option for gamers. However, its real sin is having an insufficient brightness level for outdoors (252 cd/m²) because otherwise it fulfills its purpose satisfactorily.

It is worth mentioning that the tablet has four speakers , so it is not bad for consuming multimedia content.

Hardware, OS and other features

The Teclast M50 Pro is powered by the Unisoc T616 chip along with 8GB of RAM , which can be increased to 16GB through virtual expansion. The device also consists of 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. The latter can be increased via Micro-SD, although this means sacrificing one of the SIM card slots.

In terms of performance, the processor it carries is not bad, it scores 1469 points in the Geekbench 5.2 multi-core test . As a point of reference, it’s almost as fast as the CPU on board the Honor Pad 8, which consists of a Snapdragon 680 chip.

For practical purposes, it offers solid performance for everyday applications and tasks, it can easily satisfy the needs of the average user, but its limits are evident in demanding tasks. For example, games like PUBG Mobile run with a good frame rate per second, but only if we are willing to lower the graphics to minimum or medium. When under stress, you may notice an increase in the external temperature of the tablet, but we are talking about a fairly reasonable range that goes from 29° C to 34° C.

In other words, a battery of only 6,000mAh powers the tablet , but that is enough to provide more than a day of normal use or 10 hours of continuous video playback. The bad news is that charging is very slow, it can take up to 3 hours to complete 100%.

As an operating system, it has a very pure and updated version of Android 13 , so no complaints here.

And as we mentioned previously, this tablet has 4G LTE connectivity , not to mention GPS navigation, so nothing stops us from using it as a mobile phone.

Cameras

In the photographic section, the Teclast M50 Pro is equipped with a 13MP + 0.3MP dual rear camera with LED flash, while on the front it has a 5MP sensor . As you can imagine, photo quality is not the strong point of smart tablets, and the M50 Pro is no exception to the rule. A decent phone can offer us better results for the same price.

Going into details, the rear set takes quite dark photographs that appear quite washed out due to a low dynamic range. Photos with very light and dark areas make things difficult for the camera, since sometimes the background disappears. Under optimal lighting conditions, the sensor can flesh out image details correctly, but we can always notice noise when zooming into photos. In low light conditions, the camera behaves similarly, but obviously a little more detail is lost.

The selfie camera is nothing to brag about either , even in good lighting portrait photos suffer from pale colors, blur and grain.

PROS:

  • Good price-quality ratio
  • Ample storage and RAM
  • 4G Dual-SIM
  • Well-made metal design
  • Widevine L1
  • Pure Android 13

CONS:

  • Mediocre gaming performance
  • The cameras leave a lot to be desired
  • Long recharge time
  • It does not have a fingerprint reader
  • Screen brightness could be better
