Android will soon be able to stream video calls between devices

Over the past few years, Google has been working to improve how Android devices and various accessories work together. Very soon, this work may receive an even greater boost thanks to the “Device Groups” feature, which, among other things, will allow video calls to be transferred between smartphones (or tablets).

Google is already developing a feature called “Link Your Device,” which allows you to link Android devices together under one common account. Users can then receive and make calls on these devices (you can receive a call on a tablet), as well as use one access point on linked devices. Now details have emerged about other features Google is working on. The company appears to be moving away from the “Link Your Devices” feature and renaming it to “Device Groups.”

Apparently, users will be able to add devices to a group, united by a common Google account. A pop-up window before initial setup displays two options for using this feature. One is the ability to forward an active video call between devices, and the other is to share internet access when other devices are offline.

The first option most likely works using the cross-device SDK, which Google details on the Android developer site. Presumably, Google Meet will be the first application to receive support for the new feature. The second option is the same function that was announced earlier, only in a new formulation. The launch date for Device Groups has not yet been announced.
