Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with LPDDR5T memory is 30% more powerful than Apple A17 Pro

The announcement of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is scheduled for the end of this month, but engineering samples are already being tested in benchmarks, and with faster LPDDR5T RAM. Insider Digital Chat Station published the AnTuTu benchmark results of the upcoming chip, and the most impressive thing is the GPU performance. The chipset reportedly gains a 40% performance advantage over its predecessor.

Overall, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scored 2 million points, which is 25% more than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which scored 1.6 million points in AnTuTu. By the way, the Apple A17 Pro platform in the new iPhone scores about 1.5 million points. If we consider the processor testing results separately, the difference with the previous chip model is not significant (+15.7%). The greatest increase in performance comes from the graphics subsystem – 840 thousand points versus 600 thousand points for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It seems that the Adreno 750 will be a serious competitor to the 6-core GPU in the A17 Pro.

The testing results provided by Digital Chat Station were obtained on a device with LPDDR5T RAM, however commercial devices will be limited to using LPDDR5X chips. This point is worth considering, since the results of tests with slower memory will most likely be lower. What remains unclear is how energy efficient the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is compared to its predecessor and competitors.
