Stack Audio SmoothLAN Regenerator: LAN filter for isolation and reclocking

The SmoothLAN Regenerator from UK-based Stack Audio is an improvement and expansion on last year’s SmoothLAN LAN filter, and promises to create the optimal environment for high-quality music streaming by filtering, regenerating and re-clocking the network signal. According to Stack Audio, the SmoothLAN Regenerator features advanced isolation, optimized grounding, a precise clock speed and a low-noise power supply. All of which should lead to better sound quality from network sources.

Stack Audio SmoothLan Regenerator

The SmoothLAN Regenerator is a silver or black box measuring 23 x 80 x 105 millimeters (H x W x D) and is designed to be used independently with a single network player. It features a single pair of input and output ports to prevent unnecessary network interference and crosstalk that can be generated by multi-port switches.

Stack Audio ’s new device operates at 100Mbps (and is compatible with 1Gbps networks), which is sufficient for streaming high-resolution music while providing effective filtering without degrading the digital signal. The Regenerator uses dual passive filtering and triple active reclocking to deliver an ultra-clean, noise-free connection for superior audio performance.

The SmoothLAN Regenerator combines two-layer passive filtering with three switched active jitter damping stages that synchronize the data to a highly accurate internal master clock with low phase noise.

The master clock is housed in a separate, isolated cavity, shielded from thermal fluctuations and EMI. Each circuit block has its own power supply to prevent interference. The clock power supply is specially isolated to reduce phase noise and jitter.

The machined aluminum housing acts as an RF shield, while the compartmentalized internal design isolates circuits to minimize crosstalk. Gold-plated ground paths further reduce noise, ensuring pristine audio quality. The SmoothLAN Regenerator features a custom power supply with multi-stage filtering and active regulation for stable performance with extremely low noise.

Stack Audio supplies a high-quality oxygen-free copper (OFC) CAT7 cable with a length of 0.5 meters with individual shielding.

The device is available in black or silver.
