LG has unveiled its premium OLED television lineup for 2025, highlighting impressive brightness, advanced AI features, and compatibility with 165Hz gaming, generating considerable buzz at this year’s CES in Las Vegas. In line with earlier models, the new 2025 “Evo” series, which comprises the LG M5 and LG G5 OLED variants, boasts substantial improvements aimed at engaging both film enthusiasts and gamers. What improvements can we anticipate in the 2025 LG OLED TVs?
It is essential to note that the OLED Evo M5 and OLED Evo G5 models will incorporate LG’s latest Alpha 11 Gen 2 processor. The company claims that this new processor offers enhanced performance, along with significantly upgraded AI and machine learning capabilities, leading to superior picture and sound quality compared to the already esteemed LG G4 series.
The second-generation Alpha 11 processor is particularly adept at analyzing and improving low-resolution and low-quality images, resulting in sharper and more natural upscaling results. Additionally, LG’s dynamic tone mapping system has achieved a “professional” standard, providing users and calibrators with greater accuracy in color and detail representation when adjusting and fine-tuning HDR images for different viewing conditions.
On the audio side, the upgraded Alpha 11 processor now facilitates the playback of all audio sources, including basic stereo, within a virtual surround sound framework. This represents an enhancement over the 2024 virtual 9.1.2 configuration, which is anticipated to deliver improved tonal balance and clarity. Notably, one of the most remarkable improvements in LG’s 2025 Evo premium OLED TVs will be the heightened brightness of the new M5 and G5 displays.
The newly launched Brightness Booster Ultimate system combines advanced OLED Micro Lens Array technology with sophisticated pixel color and light management, driven by the cutting-edge Alpha 11 processor. This system is said to achieve peak brightness levels that are three times higher than those found in standard OLED televisions, including LG’s B-series models.
Although LG has not revealed the exact nit count for the improved brightness of the new Evo OLEDs, the company has confirmed that this feature will be exclusive to the G5 and M5 models, which will be offered in sizes of 55, 65, 77, and 83 inches. Drawing from the brightness data of last year’s LG B4 and G4 models, it is expected that brightness in a 10% window could reach around 1900 nits, with even higher values possible in smaller measurement windows.
In its preview of the 2025 Evo OLED TVs, LG emphasizes that this enhanced brightness improves visible detail across a range of brightness levels, while still preserving OLED’s renowned capability for exceptional pixel-level light and color control.
Filmmaker Mode
The latest LG Evo displays have received validation from the independent organization UL Solutions for their “Perfect Black” and “Perfect Color” capabilities. They have also achieved a 100% color accuracy certification from Intertek and recognition for “Quick Stability with Image Quality” from TUV Rheinland.
Moreover, the M5 and G5 models introduce the first iteration of Filmmaker Mode, which incorporates ambient light compensation specifically for LG OLED TVs. This cutting-edge mode allows the precise settings of Filmmaker Mode to adapt dynamically to different lighting environments, ensuring that viewers enjoy consistent HDR picture quality, regardless of the ambient light in the room.
A notable enhancement in the gaming arena for the 55-, 65-, 77-, and 83-inch LG G5 models is the addition of support for 4K/165Hz variable refresh rate gaming signals, an improvement over the previous 4K/144Hz limitation. Furthermore, the M5 series now supports wireless video signal transmission between external connection boxes and gaming displays at resolutions up to 4K/144Hz.
The LG M5 and G5 televisions are also compatible with Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium VRR. They stand out as the first TVs to receive VESA’s ClearMR 10000 certification, highlighting their capability to provide sharp and smooth motion.
AI capabilities
LG is enhancing its promotional materials for the new Evo TVs by highlighting their advanced AI capabilities. The AI Picture and Sound Wizard features are particularly noteworthy, as they can analyze more than 1.6 billion picture settings and 40 million sound profiles, allowing users to customize their audio and visual experiences according to their personal preferences.
The newly launched AI Remote for LG Evo 2025 TVs includes a specialized AI Button that takes users to the AI Concierge homepage. Here, users are greeted by name and offered tailored recommendations based on their viewing habits.
By pressing and holding the AI Button, users can activate the AI Voice ID feature, which identifies the voices of different family members and automatically adjusts to their unique recommendations and content settings.
In certain regions, such as the US, UK, and South Korea, the AI-driven search functionality on LG Evo 2025 TVs employs a sophisticated language model to enhance its understanding of conversational context and discern user intent. The incorporation of Microsoft Copilot further enriches the user experience.
As a result, users in all regions will have access to the latest version of LG’s esteemed AI Chatbot feature, which aids in troubleshooting issues or addressing inquiries about their TV, thereby minimizing the necessity for direct interaction with LG’s customer support.
Moreover, the AI feature boasts a generative image gallery that enables users to design personalized background images by simply inputting a few relevant keywords related to the desired visual content.
The latest version of LG’s webOS smart platform now supports multi-platform integration with Home Hub, allowing users to connect to various ecosystems for improved management of multiple IoT devices. Additionally, LG is enhancing its webOS Re:New initiative, which guarantees purchasers of new Evo TVs updates to the most recent webOS versions for a period of five years.
The article highlights a significant difference between the new M5 and G5 Evo OLED models, particularly the M5’s ability to operate nearly wirelessly. This model facilitates wireless video transmission at resolutions up to 4K / 144 Hz, along with lossless audio in Dolby Atmos, supported by an external connection and data transmission unit.
